John W. Clement to John Clement, 22 July 1863
Morris Island July 22. 1863.

As Woodbury Berry is going home I thought I would send you a few lines so that you may know that I am still here and as well as you could expect from what we have gone through since this month came in some account of which I have written in my last letters and have not time to repeat now.

I shall not send my money by Woodbury as he don't seem to care about taking any. But I want you to send by him or by the first chance you have the following articles, viz

My newest white hat or one like it, if that is worn out, a pair of thick-soled calf boots, low heels, a pair that would fit George Eaton would be about right, not any smaller; 2 grey woolen shirts, be sure and get them large / enough round the neck, 2 large silk handkerchiefs; I believe that is all that I particularly need now. If you dont have time to make the shirts buy some heavy thick ones as good as you can get but not fine ones. Be sure and hem the handkerchiefs.

Yours in haste
J W Clement
