John W. Clement to Unknown, undated
I have had no chance to send any money home except by mail and I don't like to send it in that way as it liable to get lost. I shall watch the chances and get it home as soon as possible. My gun & equipments were given to one of the recruits as there were not enough for all & I had no particular use for mine as long as I am writing for the Adjutant. There has been an order issued that all extra & daily duty men (of whom I am one) shall be armed but it will probably take nearly or quite a month to get round to it.
John Head talked of going home but could not get leave of absence. I saw him a few days after I heard that he had gone home. John Bryant looks first rate. I don't know who will get the next furlough. J.W.C. /
It is news to me about any hospital on Folly Island being on fire. Don't see how the Rebs could get there to set them on fire, as our folks have occupied the island since last April and hospitals are not generally in exposed situations.
I should like to see Danl Head & Wm Adams very much
