April 11. 1864.
I have just recd your letter dated March 29th also a bundle of papers which I have not looked at yet. we are packing up and storing our surplus baggage in Jacksonville and I suppose we shall start for Palatka in this state to-morrow, and from there I don't know where we shall go, but I think on a rail road expedition somewhere.
I recd a letter from you and one from Aunt Harriet on the 31st of March but have not had time to answer either of them, as I was very busy on my usual monthly writing. I think the letters were about 8 days in coming.
Yesterday was the first day I have had any leisure time since the last day of March and as we were expecting a / a mail I thought I would put off writing till today and answer both at once. I know it looks rather shabby to do so but I dont see any way to avoid it, but it will not be so but about 4 times more if things work as I hope they will.
The last letter I recd from Martha Hall was dated the 13th of March and as I answered it the 23d I almost expected one from her this mail but did not get it.
The weather is warmer to-day than it has been this spring yet and I suppose warm weather is coming on in this part of the world.
We hear that the Veterans have been ordered to Washington and don't think we shall see them for some time, probably they will be reorganized and the Regt. / be filled up again.
Your answer to the puzzle is correct. I shall write to Aunt H. when I get time.
My health is as good as usual.
Respects to all who enquire for me.
I have not time to write any more at present.
Yours truly
J. W. Clement
