Dear friends
I am well. we had the hardest battle of the war we wey in the the hottest fire and come out with 100 and 75 men i was not hurt we was under the rebbel shell all day we have got to go some whare to day thay the rebbels are retreting a crost the river we lay all day in the woods all day in the woods and are here this morning i have lost evry thing that i had mothers daguerotype and all but you nead not fear we sp shall not have another such a hard time so good by
give my love to all my friends / and every boddy
