Dear sister
If charley taylor not going to write you a letter i thought that i would send you a fewe lines to let you kno that i am well i expect that before long that we are to make a strike for richmond i dont kno what else we are here for thare are troops coming in here all of the time i think that thare are some whare about 30 thousand men we have ben just a week since we started to come here we are about 20 milds from richmond our cavalry went out and came back with one hundred or 2 prisoners / 500 horses and mules and a lot of baggage wagons and other stuff they report not mutch of a force thare but i guess that we shall have some fiting before we get into richmond that is if we are to go thare but i dont think that thare is a heavey force thare thare is no newes here to write that i kno of we have got shelter tents and one blanket with ous we got for dinner to day bacon and hard tack i dont think that we shall have very good board as long as we stay on the peninsular they talk of mack clellan a gane for the head of the armey and i hope that they will put him thare for he is the oneley man that we have got to lead the armey if we move and / i have a chance i will let you kno so good by for this time

Tuesday morning June 30th i got your letter last night with the pictures and sent a letter home this morning but it was seald up so that i could not say aney thing about the pictures so you can tell them or send them word thare is nothing newe hear this morning the 22 are on the road home and ough to be thare in a day or 2 if not before in my letter home i have sent Gen Brunswk picture and it looks as natural as life i shall send this the 1 of July and i want to kno the day / of the month that you get it to see whether letters go through or not some say they do and some say not lote it must have quite a tost i suppose that they are a going to have quite a time in Hartford the 4 i wish that i could get thare the shirts i have not seen any thing of the shirts yet and i guess that i never shall it has ben bad weather ever since we started from portsmouth foggy and rainey but i must close for it is time for coffee so good by till you hear from me agane
