Dear Mother and sister I received your note of the 23 inst which gave me great pleasure to hear from you and to hear that you were all well which I am sorry to say I am not at pressent as I am sufering from the old sore on my leg it has broke out again and it is very sore but I guess I will get my dis-charge but you may send on the old dis-charge as I want to show it to the doctor here and you need not be surprised if you see me at home before Christmas or new year I do not / do anny duty now and the doctor has got my name down for a discharge but as our regiments are not brigaded yet it is quite hard to get one I am quite destitute of money now and therefore I can not get little things that I want as I cannot eat the strong vitels that we have here and I would feel gratefull to you if you would send me some pie and cake and you can put some butter in a coffe can or some thing of that sort put it all up in a box and send it by express to washington Direct to the 169 Rgt Co D in my name and it will come to me be sure and send it on an at the same time you do the letter and if you would send one or two dollars I would like it as I lent some money and I cannot get it now 
 
give my love to all the boys and girls at the hill it is getten dark now and I will close this with the hope of a speedy answer
