Camp Nevin Nov 27 1861
My Dear Mother
I sit down this evening to let you know that i am well and hope that theas fiew lines may find you all engoying the same blesing i received your letters to day and was hapy to hear from you i received a letter from A Manda McKalliss to day we are now a fiew miles further south we mooved on yesterday we stil call it camp Nevin it rained all last night it is very sickly / here now they is twenty eight sick out ove our company and one hundred and eighty three sick in the regiment they is some not bad but they is that many that ant fit for duty they is now two of our boys in our bunk that has the fever and prety hard James Wilson has been in the hospital but he is out now and a great deal better you spoke a bout blankets you need not send any for we got blankets the other day we reached here last night at dark and pitched tents and got no supper it dont make any difference to us whether we get any or not for we have / learnt to do without we calculate to moove on south as fas as the railroad bridges can be fixed up we have a great many ment to face when we get to Bolling green they Rebles are going to make Nashville they seat of government and if they do we will have a great deal of fighting to do i think that cantuckey will be principal fighting ground from this on
i think we can hold our own with them i hope we may moove on as fas as possible and make short work ove it i wrote to Robert Carnihan a fiew day a go we had two accidents sense i wrote to you before / they was two men shot in our regiment one shot dead and the other in the leg i think he will recover you speak a bout writing with a pencil i cant get ink here to write i hope you will excuse me for it give my love to all ove the folks
