June the 11th 1862
Dear Mother
I seat my self this morning to write you a fiew lines to leave you know where i am and how i am i am well and with the regiment again we are in Alabama within 60 miles of the Missippi line and we was sent out on picket we are stil on east side of the tennessee river we are camped 4 miles out from the river and our company was sent out on picket on the 31 first of may and stood all night at the river and as soon as / day break came we could see the reble pickets on the other side of the river a fiew words passed betwheen our men and them and they fiered on us and we returned the fier and the fiering became general all a long the line they bullets whistled over our heads right smart they skirmish was kept up til a 11 oclock when our men came to the river with some artilery and they opened fier on them they left fast then and then they was three of the boys swum the river and burnt 4 houses and came back we have been over the river three times sense that we was over on yester / yesterday our company only whitch is the only company the Colonel will send we went out some three mile on the other side when we herd that they was 4 regiments of rebles camped out a short distance from where we was and we came back we have a hard way to cross the river gust one old flat and the river over a half a mile wide our boys is all well now and in good spirits but i dont think the war will be over soon you are allways wanting me to give you the perticulars if i would you would hardly believe them and for that reason i wont give anny of them
i wrote to you when i was in pulaski i was glad to hear ove you being well in our skirmish they was no person hert. i will send you a smaul piece of ove a Reble flag whitch was captured at lebnon tennessee by the 23 Kentuckey regiment as i hant mutch to write i will close this letter hoping to hear from you soon your true friend
