Dear Mother
I seat my self this cold morning to answer your kind and and welcome letter of the 6th and i was hapy to hear ove you all enjoying good health my health is good i was glad to hear ove you having sutch a good time on christmas i would liked to been their with you but it cant be helped you say i ought to be their to see how the boys are trying to escape the draft i expect it would be fun you want to know wheather i am going to reinlist before i surve out my old time i intend surving my old time out if i live and then i will come home and i may reinlist then but i want / to see some ove the boys at home try it on first company K ove our regt has reinlisted and is going home on a furlow in a fiew days Robert Smith is one of them i dont want a furlow that bad that i will enlist for three years more to get one
i was glad to hear you have Doctor moor paid off and i was glad to hear that walt was getting a long so well you say you hant had any letter from me for some time i wrote to you on the 26th of last month and i sent 50 dolars in it and i wrote sense that to alie so if you hant received them they must of got lost on the way
i have heard a great deal of talk a bout the suny south for my part i have never saw mutch colder weather at home than we have had here for a fiew weeks back / i sent Giny a ring in alies letter that i made out ove a [?] root of ove the batle field of lookout mountain and i will send lidea something in the next letter They is no signs ove ous getting any more grub what is the reason is more than i can tell i spent a very dry christmas and newyears the same
the boys are all well from a round their, Shearer is still tending the sick and tends to that well dan is a fine boy we have prety hard duty here we are fortifying this place and we have a good deal of picketing to do besides you said you herd our regt had all reinlisted and was coming home on furlow it ant the case
i will close hoping to hear from you soon a gain
