Dear Mother
                                    I am sory that of the news that i herd of my dear brother being killed but mother i hope you will not trouble your self to mutch a bout it for you ant able to stand it the letter he wrote to me last i think he was prepared to die now mother i do hope you will not trouble your self to mutch i now it is hard but i think he is better of now than he ever was i have not received any letter from you sense he was killed if you want him so at home take all my money if you need it but mother it will only be double trouble for you he will be buried decently where he is but you can use your own pleasure 
 
we left Nashville the day after cristmas and we marched into Murpheys Borow this morning we was in the hardest batles sense the begining of the war we lost very heavy our regiment lost 175 killed and wounded and our company lost a great deal the heavyest All the westmoreland county boys is safe i will give you all the perticulars in the next letter Now my Dear Mother i ask this of you dont fret your self so mutch a bout daniel for i know he was prepared to die now do not i now it is hard but try and do not fret your self this is all as i ant got any paper but this
