Camp At Chattanooga
June 25th 1864
Dear mother
I now seat my self to write you a fiew lines to let you know that i am well and i hope theas fiew lines may find you enjoying the same great blessing we was in the front for 51 days and on the morning of the 22ond the colonel received an order to report his regt to Chattanooga and wait their for further orders so we have been in here two days i must say our regt was a hard loocking set of boys when we came in we had been marching and fighting and building fortifycations for 51 days working most of the time at night so we have drawed some new clothing and are getting cleaned up / when we left our army they was 115 mile south of this that is the distance we drove them and when we left the rebs was on altona mountains and our men closed up on them and had fortifyed within 500 yards ove their works they was some hard fighting going on the morning we left but we left so early we did not know how it was the report is that the rebles had to leave the mountain and fall back over the Chattahoochie river where they will be apt to try a nother stand we have now to go as train gard on the [faded] four oclock in the morning for three days so i cant give you the [faded] this time the loss in our regt [faded] 12 killed and wounded i am out of money on account ove lending to others expecting to get paid before this so you will oblige me very mutch if you will send me 15 dolars in the first mail as i need it bad write soon
