Dear mother
I now seat my self to answer your kind letter whitch is received some days a go and had not time to answer it then so i will now i have gest returned from making a trip to Knoxville east tennessee by railroad we was sent as gard we was three days a way and it is a beautifull country and the people up their seems like the northern folks they are true union people after being used so bad for two years by the rebles they go in for fighting the rebles til the last one ove them is killed off they are true to their country to what the greater part ove the people are not in the north and i cant see how it is / i see the president has called for more troops and he has give them the priveledge ove volenteering and stil they wont go so when the draft comes of they will find fault with him and commence finding fault with the administration i am a fraid the people at home will divide this fall but i trust the fiew loyal people that is left will be more determined on carying out this war than they have ever been yet they should dispise a peace man as a snake for they are trying to have peace when they know no sutch a thing couldent be had unless acknolledgeing the confedercy and that is gest what they are wanting but i guess they is a nough loyal men left with what nigers can be armed to settle this scrape if i had it in my power i would send evry peace man ove the north out side ove our lines and confiscate their property i would treat / them as a reble as that is what they are let me know in your next letter how the feeling is ove the majority ove the people a bout lincoln for president this fall the soldiers is going to go heavy for him what is the reason reason the men wont inlist any more do they think they is a nough men out or dont they want the war stoped i see the pittsburgh papers has a piece in a bout our regt being mustered out in pittsburgh in august but it is a mistake we wont leave here til the 12th ove October i received them ten dolars you sent me and am expecting 5 more in the next letter one ove our boys received a letter from home to day saying something a bout a fight betwheen ester Faulk and Dock moor let me know how it was our men are now lying in 1 mile ove atalanta and has had some hard fighting but they have not taking it yet but i feel confident that Sherman will take it before long as this poorly writen letter leaves me enjoying / good health i will close let me know what you think of this letter write soon
