Malinda Crawford was born around 1842 in Tennessee to William and Amanda Crawford. Her father was a farmer who owned $1,000 of real estate and $250 of personal property by 1860. She grew up in Hawkins County, Tennessee. She corresponded with William Long and George Britton during the war. She married Thomas Mercer on January 31, 1867, and they had a son named Robert. They remained in Hawkins County, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1870, they owned $411 of personal property. Her husband died in the 1910s, and by 1920, she was living in her son Robert’s household in Hawkins County. She died sometime after 1930.
