Dear Sister
I thought as this would in all probability be the last opportunity I would have for writing I concluded to improve it by droping a few lines to you and Aurelia. You have no doubt read all about our march from Atlanta Ga and the taking of Savannah on the 20 day of Dec. Tomorrow morning we com leave here on another long campaign perhaps in South Carolina. The weather during the day is warm and pleasant but the nights is rather cool for troops on a march, but the army is in fine health and spirits and well clothed and and fed. When that is the case we generally get along first rate. I understand from James that Aurelia and you are back in Quincy and he sais that you are going to school. If that is so I am glad of it. I would like to have you go to school this winter in Quincy. You can improve your self better there than / than in the country. Go to which ever school you wish and I will pay the bill. Send me notice how much it will cost to go one term and what your board will be pr week. I would rather you would board with Aurelia if convenient for she can take better care of you than any one else there and I will send you enough money so that you will be no expense to her
Before starting last October on or about the first of November I sent you ten dollars in a letter and when I was on Lookout Mt I sent you ten but you did not speak of receiving but the one letter with money I forgot now whether I sent them both to Carthage or not. But if you received 20 dollars I want you to let me know it. James sais he let you have 14 dollars and I will send you ten more to get books and start you to school or to get anything else you may need. Let me know what school you attend and the teachers name. I will send this photograph to Aurelia They say it looks like me. Write as soon as you get this / and let me know how you and Aurelia are getting and whether either of you stand in need of any assistance. I send my love to you both and want you to write often
I remain your affectionate
Brother William B Atkins
