Dear Mother I now take opportunity to write a fiew lines to you to let you know that we are all well we talk of going south but I dont believe we will have the good luck of going we will have to stay here untill we rot and then we wont have to go South I would like to go down and have a good time at fighting this cold weather it snows all the time it has snowed all day steady it looks like winter I dont have to do nothing onley sit by the fire not when it is so cold unless I am on guard I was on last wednesday and the next day it rains verry hard and / the next day the wind blowd then to day the snow blows like every thing we have no stove in our barrak now but thare is one in the Capt room and Lieut room and I sit by them and write I have not had aney letters for some days I like to get letters as well as aney boddy I want you to write to me when you get this I want to know how the folks down that way gits along we are situated in the coldest place in Ills we have 80 men in our company now thare is not a man sick in the company thare is about 6 in the whole Ridgement it is a verry healthy place here I have not been sick since I have been here all we have to do this cold weather is to sit by the stove I have not / been to town in a long time the reason is I cannot get out of camp I wish Ed wasn't here it wouldn't do him good it has done me good I dont expect I will come home again untill I go for good and that will be in the spring I think I dont think the war will last longer than the first April if it does let her rip I am glad for the trip I would like to have you come up and see me if you can you and some of Mr Newells people you can come as well as not well I will quit this
