Memphis Tenn Feb 18th, 1862
Dear Mother
I will answer your letter which I received yesterday dated Jan 30th I was verry glad to hear from you this is the first letter that I have had since the middle of Dec I began to think that you was not going to write aney more I have been nurseing ever since the 18 of Jan untill last week the stuard got a span of horses and a wagon and I drive them all I have to do is to take care of my horses and hall rations for them and our selves and I can / hall enough at one load to last 10 days and at knight I have all knight to sleep I have the easyest times of ane fellow in the hospital and I guess I will stay here for a while I did think one spell that I would go to my Regt but now I shall stay untill after the fight at Vixburg and and I do not know how mutch longer I shall be verry glad of those boots I will not write aney more this time it is awfull muddy here now my health is verry good now I guess I will get along all right now please write soon and oblige your son
