Chewalla Tennessee Sunday June 8 1862
Dear Mother I now seat myself to write you a fiew lines to let you know that I received your letter dated May 31 and had not received that money yet. I think that man that took that money was honest because if he was a rogue he would took the whole there was 970 dollars that was sent from our company and thare has a great maney from our Company that has heard from thare money and it is all right thare was one package directed to Ottawa and thare has none of that arive to the place whare it was sent I directed this to Mary Williams Ottawa La Salle Co Illinois and it is thare with your name on it I expected you would have it by the time I got this letter but it seams that you did not get it but I guess it is all right yet the most of the boys have heard from thare money Lander Saxon says he sent some to M[?] and that got home safe F Smiths and mine was directed to Ottawa they was / both in one package I guess it is all right when you get it pleas let me know I have not much news to write they are building this railroad as fast as possible it is the Memphis and Charleston R.R. my health is verry good now I got pretty poor one spell but I am getting fat now I think we will go to Memphis before long I hope so aney how we have good water now and that is a good thing black berries are ripe here I have all I want to eat they are pretty good eating I think I am not takeing care of the Col horse now I get sick of it I received a paper from you to day with the letter I hope the next letter will bring the news that you got the money because I sent all I could spare and a little more but I have enough so long as it lasts there is 45 dollars I have not heard from yet but I guess it will get thare safe tell Mary Anice that I am waiting for a letter from her tell her to be thare and give my love to her I must close pleas write soon Direct to
