Camp Sherman Sept 14th 1863
 
Dear Mother
                        I now seat my self to write a fiew lines to you to let you know how I am getting along I am now in the Hospital I have been in here seven days I am pretty near ready to go out now I have been pretty sick I had the intermiting fever and chronic diareah I am pretty weak yet but am gaining fast Calvin Langster and Charles Patterson are also in they are both better now Patterson is the worst. I would be verry glad to get some good currant wine now it would do me / good also some dried beef and some black berry preserves I suppose you will get the letter that I wrote before this. thare is a good maney of our Regt sent home to thare parents for thare things what they kneed and send down by the chaplain he can bring them down the same as sanitary goods and it will not cost aney thing. I can buy a furlough for seventy dollars but I guess I will not take it I do not think it will pay. I think I will get along now all right if I draw a furlough I will take it if not then I shall not come home I will not write much more this time I do not think / you write verry often I would like to hear from you oftener if you can find time to write Fred Smith is not verry well now he has the Diereah the Regt has gone out on a scout to day they are to be gone a day or two pleas write when you get this from your son
