Dear Mother
I now seat my self on a log to write a fiew lines to you we left camp last Tuesday to go on a march and we have been on a march ever since we left every thing in camp and thare was a fellow came along pedling paper I thought I would buy a fiew sheets and write I do not know whether I can send this or not I am well I feel a great deal better than I did when I was at home / the boys are all well except Fred Smith I will not write aney more the talk now is that we are going to Rome Ala it is about seventy miles from here the eastern and western army both are going to move south
