Dear Mother
                        I now will write a fiew lines to you to let you know that I feel pretty well to day it is quite cold here to day once in a while we can see a snow flake some days it awfull hot and the next day it will be so cold that we can hardly stay out of dowars I received a letter from Martha Smith yesterday the folks wer all well I want you to make me up some of that / Boneset candy like that Miss Franciee told you of thare is lots used it down here and it has stoped the ague on them and I wish you would make me up a lot of it and send it down some way you can send a little box like you sent me from Champaign send the candy quite a lot of it put it in a can and send me some tea and fill up the box with some thing elce not get the box to large send it as quick as possible send it by express direct it to John D Beach Co G 55 Ill Vol 1st Brig 2nd Div / 15 A.C. Larkinsville Ala be shure and get put Larkinsville on it I have not had the ague for three or four days and I feel pretty well to day send me a cake like the one you sent from Champaign I think we will be apt to stay here a while dont send aney chese nor pickles because they would spill but some good cake and candy tea and aney thing elce that is good I will not write aney more this time from your son
