Dear Mother
                        I will write a fiew lines to you one of the boys brought up a box from the Express office marked John D. Beach Chicago Board of Traid Battery it is in my tent now when John D Beach calls for it he can have it
 
Yesterday I saw fred Smith in the Zollicoffer house he is under guard I was riding along the streets and he hailed me I went up to the door I asked him how long / he had been thare he said about 4 weeks I asked him if he had aney money and he said no and I gave him ten dollars he said he was going to write to his folks and have them hand it to you. Well I wish you would send me a box I will tell you what I want one thing is those long risband gloves and that cap and that jacket with the stripes on but take off the stripes and those black pants and a good big bottle of wine and aney thing else that you want to send two or three neck / ties I want you to send the box as quick as you can
