Dear Mother
                        I will answer your letter which I received just a fiew minutes ago I was glad to hear from you I had not had a letter before since I have been in this place I do wish you would write to me oftener than you do when you do write you do not write but a fiew lines I have not been paid off yet but we expect it this weak I hope it will come soon I expect you will get some money from Joseph Goodwin 10 dollars John George Newell owes me 10 dollars if he gets home he will pay you I am glad to hear Charles West has got home prehaps he will pay you something that he has [?] or owes me if he does not it is all the same what is the reason that Ada does not write to me do you know I have not heard from her for about two months / I think it is about time for me to get a letter from her I think we will all get home in four months from now and then I will not care if I do not get aney letters
 
thare is three men get furloughs from my company N. Bull J. Myres & J Emery in a fiew days thare will be some more to go prehaps I will be one I want you to send me that picture that is in the case and I will send this to Julia Bradley and she will send it back to you again I am thinking it will not be long untill we get out the order a fiew days ago was for us to go to Arkansas but I guess we will not go but cannot tell yet—but hope we will not I have not had but one letter since I have been here to this city did you get that 80 dollars from J. B. Nell from Chicago he sent it to you some time ago you did not write and tell me about Ada as I wanted to have you / you do not write verry often and I should think you would write pretty good letters you must take a little more time about one half of the Army are deserting I do not like the idea much but I would like to go home verry well I do not know what to write about now but all the talk now is about geting out of the service I will not write aney more this time for thare is no news F. Smith will be home soon and he will tell you all the news no more this time from your son
