Dear Friend "Billy"
Enclosed you will find an affidavit setting forth the fact of being a member of "D" Company which has been called for by old Bently as it was omitted in the original affidavit.
Please have it subscribed to before a Court of Record and return immediately Thank Heaven, Bently is out of his office. The new appointee is a personal friend of mine and I have full faith that now the soldiers will get their proper dues Col W W Dudley is a one leged soldier and the most efficient Republican in Indiana of whom I know If your case hangs fire, let me know and I will write him a personal letter in your behalf. I intend to try and visit you when I get my money from Uncle Sam If any of our "boys" write to you, in regard to their / claims tell them where I am, and that I have our old Company Rolls and to send to me.
Give my kindest regards to your family and
Believe me Truly
Yours
