Maj. Smith,

            Dear Sir: Desiring to secure a position in a colored Regt, I desire a recommendation to the board now in session, in the city.

Chas. M. Lum, Col, 10^th Mich. Inft, President.

 

I address this to you having heard that the Col F.E.C. is absent from the Regt. If you, with out doing injustice to yourself, can give me such a commendation, I will be greatly obliged to you.

 

I desire to make an application immediately, as we will not remain here much longer. Should the Col. be present you may present this request to him for his action.
