Dear Friend
Your letter and recommend was recd with much pleasure. many thanks to you for the recommend.

When I wrote to you for the recommend I intended to recruit a Co. or a part of one but on account of sickness in our family and other reasons I have not done so
My wound is gaining fast now but cannot use my hand yet my furlough expires next week but Dr Evans said he would give me a certificate of disability for thirty days longer and then I will be able to report to the Regt. I am glad to hear that the Boys are haveing a little rest. I would like to be with them and shall be as soon as possible. I shall be pleased to hear from you at any time.

I am very Respectfully Your Obt. servt.
J. W. Swansbrough

(P.S. my kindest regards to Lt Havens)
