Ann Eliza Leekley (maiden name: Gallaher) was born on August 26, 1837, in Illinois to James and Mary Gallagher. Her husband served as a marshal, and he died sometime before 1850. She grew up and attended school in Galena, Illinois. In 1856, she attended Rock River Seminary in Morris, Illinois. One of her classmates was John A. Leekley, and the couple got married on May 19, 1859. They had at least three children: Mary, born around 1860; Charlotte, born around 1867; and Harlow, born around 1874.
They lived in Galena, and her husband worked as a bookkeeper and a grocer. By 1860, they owned $2,000 of real estate and $500 of personal property. A decade later, they owned $2,000 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property. Her husband died on December 1, 1876. She moved to Chicago, Illinois, in the late 1870s, and by 1900, she was living in her son Harlow’s household there. A decade later, she was living with her daughter Charlotte in Chicago. She died in Chicago on February 9, 1912.
