Referring to your letter of the 22d ult. requesting that the commission of your brother Thomas J. Smith as late Lieut. Comp. "I" 96th Illinois Volunteers, if filed here, be forwarded to you; and to be informed where the discharge papers of Amon Miller 2d Dragoons, and John Zesler 2d Illinois Volunteers (Mexican War) filed in claims for land-warrants may be found; I have to inform you, that the commission referred to has not been received at this office; and that for information pertaining to claims filed for land-warrants, application should be made to the Commissioner of the General Land Office, Washington, D.C.
