Georgetown S.C. 4th April 1862
Dear Miss Sousan
We received your letter of the 4th February in due time but have neglected to reply till now
Our delay however may in part be attributed to the unsettled state of things here, and part to our indifference
We are all well at present excepting we all have colds and coughs, more or less
You ask me how I like Georgetown I indeed like it much better than Beaufort, still it is rather dull now, but few persons here except soldiers. I do not suppose that there are more than twenty families in town, and they are fixing to move as quick as possible, still many think Georgetown will not be attacked this spring / but in as much as they cannot be sure about it they think it prudent to get out of the way
We expect to move next tuesday we are going to the neighborhood of Youhanna ferry twenty miles from this place; We are just going to a summer retreat not so much running from the yankees
Being busy getting ready to move I cannot write any more
Give our love to your Mother, Mary, June and Catherine, write soon, tell us about John Wesley, whether he is well or not, and whether he has gone to Virginia again or not
Remember us to Bro & Sister Ogburn Dr & Mrs Lane in a word to all our friends up there. Ellen Smith sends her love to Kate. Truly yours
Julia A. Hughes
