Eli S. Shuter to Unknown, undated
...decline to sell, you had better make arrangements to give the Security required by our Law, else the negroes will have to be hired out again and kept here until the final settlement of the Estate—and I can't tell how long that will be, as the notes given for the land & the negroes assigned to Dickson's brothers & sisters, will all have one year to run before maturity, & then many of them will doubtless have to be collected by suit.

I am exceedingly anxious to close this business up & will push it as fast as the Law will permit.

Should you come out to the sale of the land, I would be pleased to have you call & stay at my house. Another thing I want you to attend to & that is, see Mrs Dickson & learn when & where she was married to Mr D. & if it is on record, send me an execulplification to prove the marriage. I will hand it to Mr Clayton. He will need it at Court to obtain the order for distribution & to show title to D[?].

Yours Respectfully
Eli S Shuter

P.S. you had best also send with
the paper I have drawn up the written
request of Mrs D. & two of the children
to consent to sell the D[?] in
the [?] land.
