Thomas Foster to Brother, 29 November 1861
Camp Jameson Nov. 29./61.
Dear Brother;
I received your letter dated Nov 24 to night, and as we leave to night at one oclock to go out scouting, will write to night; I am in good health now and feel first rate. to day a party went out and report says they brought in eight hundred secesh cavalry. if there is any of that game where we are going, they had better look out. the daily duty in camp is drill drill. I want a change and to night we start with four hundred of our boys and five hundred cavalry to go nobody knows where but in advance of / line of pickets. you wrote to me that you had received the money I sent you but you did not say how much I sent you twenty dollars I likewise sent Father twenty five dollars I received a letter from home dated one day later and they said nothing about the money I prefer sending money in small quantities for fear of robbery I sent you a paper containing the message of Jef Davis and other matter of interest. Barden is well and his tongue is going while I am writing I have no more to write at present give my love to all inquiring friends write as often as you can I will write again Sunday / and let you know what we caught on our scouting party that is if I get out with a whole hide we have to start in about five or six hours and I am going to lie down to sleep a little before we go
so good by for the present
Yours &c Thomas Foster
