My dear Wife—
I write in a great hurry, not that I have any news, good or bad but to make a simple request of you and Katy & Emma—We, that is us 3 Officers are sadly in want of something woolen to put on our heads at night. We put the capes of our overcoats over our heads when we go to sleep, but they work off and our heads become very cold. Many of the other officers have Scotch caps which we would prefer. Some have helmets (which I dont like, & some fez caps—but we think the caps best. If you have time to knit them they would be duly appreciated. They can be sent by mail, addressed as usual. Some of the men receive boots in this way. As to color, we leave that to your fancy, but let it be plain. I hear the Paymaster will be here in 10 days to pay us. I trust it is so, as we are completely tired out waiting for him. I will write again on Thursday as tomorrow we are to have a Grand Review by Gen Howe. we must do our best and make a good appearance. I must hurry & close Love to all. Kisses for babies. Trusting you will not deem it too much trouble or as too much of you to do this for me.
I remain
Yours devotedly
Andy
