Andrew T. Goodman to Adelaide B. Goodman, 8 April 1863
Camp near White Oak Church Va.
April 8 1863
Dear Dot,
Srgt Dickson's furlough came in late last night, too late to write a long letter, but I must write you a few words to let you know how I am. It is not yet daylight, we were called up early to prepare for a grand Review of the Army by President Lincoln. We have just come in from an unusually hard picket tour of 3 days, having been exposed to the terrible snow storm of last Saturday night. It tired the men greatly and we do not feel much like marching 5 miles to be looked at. We would prefer having our Greenbacks—if possible. I am sorry that Weidy gave such a glowing account of our comforts as to make you feel [?]—but I guess that will pass off. I am glad that you are better than when you last wrote, and hope you will continue to improve. I suppose you have recd my last letter by this time. But I must hurry to breakfast. I will write after the grand Review, that is if it comes off for it looks much like snowing now. Kiss little ones over & over for me and give my love to all the folks.
Believe me to remain as ever
Yours devotedly
Andy A.T.G.
Did I leave a new cap at home?
