Dear Dot.
I presume you know of our movement by this time. We left Warrenton on Monday afternoon last and reached this camping ground last night about 10 o'clock. I wish I could find time to give you a full description of our march, for it was one of the most unpleasant ones we have yet made—dark and dismal. We were exceedingly annoyed by our recruits who straggled fearfully. I lost 6 on the march, but most of them have come in since. We do not know how close we are to the Rebs but I fancy we are not far from them, as this morning we were under arms by daylight. We also are close to the picket line. Yesterday we forded Hazel River. That was a funny scene, of which I must give you a full description, when I next write. I scratch you this for sake of the enclosure which I hope will find acceptable. Twenty dollars ($20) I wish you would please send to John Burkhardt / Chaplain takes this to Culpepper and will try and express it to Phila. from there. I hope it will reach you safely. I have nothing new. All are well but dreadfully tired and hope to have a good night's rest. Give my love to all remembrances to friends. Kiss little ones over and over for me. Write often & believe me to be as ever

Yours devotedly
Andy
