Newbern, N.C. March 13th 1864
Dear Mother
With pleasure I received your letter yesterday and was quite glad to hear from you I am very well at present and I hope this will find you the same. as for that county bounty I will send you the order in this letter take and use it all for what you need if you should get it please send me some postage stamps my health is first rate I can stand all the soldiering that any one can I am thundering glad Dave Kribs and Willie Bright has enlisted if they come South and go through what I have since I enlisted they wont like it very well I can stand anything now. I am sorry you had to trouble Dan Houghton with that box you can send one by express to me at any size I would like / some of your dried beef very well but you need not trouble your self about it for I can live on anything I have been very busy for a bout a month a prepareing for the rebs they came down here and stoped a little while and kicked up quite a row if you get the Bounty let me know

I received your welcomed letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you Mary I wish you could see this country down here in this state and Virginia Mary what do you say if I should reinlist for 3 years longer let me know in your next letter give my respects to all the inquireing friends Mary I am awfull tired
