We are haveing bad weather here at present it has been raining for about a week and I have had a rough time of it. I have been in a desperate battle I wrote and told Mary of it there was only 3 of Co B come out they be C C Kribs Fred Munzer Jake Gruther the rest were all killed & wounded I was the same as a prisnor once but I managed to escape from them by makeing a break for our lines when they were picking up some of our wounded I made a quick dash through but I would not if I hadent use the but of my musket pretty lively as / the barrell was all smashed to pieces there was one whole volley shot at me but I only got a slight wound in the hip I was bound to make one desperate effort to get a way I did not care about going to libby Prison I made too or 3 have a pretty sore head for I struck with all my power right and left I will give Wm H the piticulars of the battle. I am sorry Uncle Mose is so sick tell him I am well and would like to see him I hope I will for I like Uncle mose first rate I wish I could send home a couple overcoats but I cant for there is know express office here I enjoyed my self at home better than I expected I would I guess I will come out all right in the end for it seem to me as though I was not agoing to get hurt and I dont believe I be. you can tell grand Father I believe Ive shot / that reb for him give my respects to grand Mother and tell her I am all right and also may has Carrie heard from Dave lately if she has let me know how he is getting along; Mother I most sincerely thank you for offering to send me any thing I want but it is impossible now for me to get any thing from home for there is know express office this side of city point I shall be home again next spring I think when our Officers time is out has Paul got that letter I wrote to him in Marys letter.
