Fredericksburg Va May 15th 1865

Dear Mother
With pleasure I take this opportunity of letting you know I am well & sincerely hope this may find you the same it is now nearly 4 weeks since I have had a letter from any of you although I have received all of Marys papers & books I had to laugh at that piece about Dave Goudeys paper & his getting married too Well good luck to him he must feel cheap over it. now Mother let me know the reason you havent wrote to me before if you knew how troubled I am about it you would surely let me know have I done any thing wrong or has there been any thing said against me by any one who has stoped our communication if such be I am very sorry for I love my home & its inmates better than I do my life if it is not so I beg your pardon & will take it all back. I have now only written my thoughts as they now are I have seen Willie Bright & Jim Smith & Jennings McDonald & Still Rice & Cal Tarpening they are all well. do not / let Octave & Sam blow to much when they get home about what they done I cant think of any more this time Ill write to mary & paul soon The reason I didnt write sooner was because we had a long march from Richmond here

Will write often now

I will close hopeing to hear from you soon

your Affectionate son
Charley
