To Mrs W. Kribs
Norfolk Va aug 11th 1862
Dear Madam. I have got an opportunity to write you a few lines so I guess I will improve it Charles is up to camp he is well and so I Danford Houghton and so am I
Charles and myself have signed a paper to send his money home in a draft and so have I so that we cannot spend it down here Danford says he will not sign it and Captain has signed it and so has the Lieutenant Charles is as healthy as he was at home and so is Danford I was sick for a while but am getting better we are expecting to be attacked ever / night when we lay down to sleep we lay on our arms every night we expect the reble gunboat down the river every day Charles and me have all the fruit we want to eat tell Mary to write to me it seems good to get a letter away down here away from friends to think that such a one has had that in his hand I have had three letters within the last three days a reble deserter came into camp the other day and said that the reble force at Richmond did not exceed 48,000 the boys are all anxious for a fight we expect to go to Richmond soon if nothing happens how does my Sisters get along give my respects to all Good bye in haste Lewis A Giles
