Camp 21 Va Infantry

Dear Mama
I arrived safe in camp on friday after I left home but had some difficulty on account of the ice 7 miles this side of Lynchburg. the young ladys arrived safe at home. I have been on picquet for the last 8 days & had a very hard time of it but have returned to camp again there is nothing new with us some of my men are on furlough / & I wish you would send my coat by Chenault as I expect he will be at Mr Ellis' Tell John Eldridge that there has been an order issued forbidding any more Officers as I expect that they are going to consolidate the Regts. if they do I do not know what I will do yet. I am getting very anxious to join Mosebys Command as Infantry is very hard service Oswald is very well & seems to stand it better than I expected I think he will make a very good soldier. we had orders last night to be ready to march at a moment notice but it all turned out to be a few Yank / ey Cavalry came over the Rapidan to see what we were doing but they soon return back again. I must close My love to all
