Dearest Aunt—
I am much afraid that many days will elapse before we again receive a mail, or have an opportunity of writing. Gnl Hood has adopted a new system of campaigning with cooked rations in the haversack, for 3 days, blankets on behind the saddle and a scant hope of forage on the road side. No wagons allowed, except for ammunition; with such transportation we are to penetrate somewhere in the enemys country. Where, or what to do I am unable to say. We are now under marching / orders prepared for fifteen days and probabilities of a much longer trip. We are 20 miles south of Rome and about the same S.E. of Kingston. Last night we heard that the enemy had invaded Rome, some say for the purpose of concentrating at Dalton, or Resaca. But enough of all that; I am so tired of the campaign that I take but little interest in it & have not the slightest curiosity on the subject. We are to have a most fatiguing trip, and possibly, accomplish nothing.

I have only a few moments before we start, just in time to enough to report of my welfare up to this time. The Genl has just recd a letter from Raleigh / asking of my whereabouts &c. I have not heard from you since my return, or I might say from any one, except a young lady friend of mine, from Macon. Expecting mail, to hear from Savannah.

I hope you have recovered entirely and not forgotten my request. I am going to take especial interest in "Annie [?]"

Much love
From
Yr devoted
Nephew
