William Rees to Mary D. Williams, 11 October 1861
October the 11th 1861
Dear Mary
it is with a
heavy heart that
i take my pen
in hand to
inform you that the chances for my release is small i have been with the lawyer and he told me that i could not get free without a great deal of trouble the Colonel came home this morning with part of the uniforms and he brought the news that part of the regiment were to leave on sunday at 10 oclock But we do not know whether our Company will go or not i would like very much if / you would come down to see us before we start i hope that i shall see you before we go and rather than all that i could stay with you
Miss E E Sanderson Send a letter to her brother to inform him that we were married and it appears that she knew more about it than i do she does not appear to be very well pleased because she had not word in it to But i do not think that i shall get any thinner because of her wrath are you all willing for me to refuse to take the oath a not and be drummed out of the camp dishonerably if so inform me immediately i hope that you are contented and set your hope on a higher / Power for my safty i shall endeavor to give my care to him i hope that you will excuse this blots of this letter
i give you my affection
Which shall last as long as i live
yours truly
My respects to my Parents and Sister
your brothers likeness cannot be changed but i have him had drawed after the old one
