Dear Mary
i take my pen in hand to inform you that I am well and i hope that these few lines will find you the same i feel very lonesome since i left on sunday We got down before sunset i feel more to be with you this time than ever i hope that you are contented i hope that i shall soon be with you again i expect father down today i am wishful to see the result of his visit our Company is very near full. Smith does not care to come home at all i had to coax a great deal before he was willing for / his father to try to get him free but he consented at last isaac barnhart is not maried to Magaret Rees. We do not know when we shall leave here but i do not think that we will leave for some time yet.

i hope that you will pardon me for not writing yesterday i was on guard and that was the reason but my affection is no less all my desire now is that i could be with you i had my likeness taken yesterday morning /
