Dear Wife
i take my pen in hand to inform you that I am well at present and hope that you are the same i have been expecting you evry day this week till now i have given you up i cannot get a furlough on any account i cannot say what is the reason he says that i have as many as he can give i was glad to get your letter Mrs evans gave me last Saturday i have been before the judge and lawyers since i saw you last i feel very discontented since i have / things have turned i was disappointed i would like very much if i could come home again before we leave this place but i am afraid that i cannot my affection burns stronger evry day i hope that you are contented i want you to tell me how you get along with them at home the reason that i did not answer your letter sooner was i expected you here i hope that you will be here before you will send another letter. i send the relief list in this letter which you to Mr dudley you will have to give to Mr dudley and he will get you the money as soon as you give him the list /
i send you my truest love
give my best respects to
my parents and sarah
i hope that you do not
take it hard that i am
not permited to come home
