Camp Curtin
 
Dear Wife i take my pen in hand to let you know where i am and how i am Well i am in Camp Curtin near Harrisburg We came here last night about 4 oclock but we had to stand out in the cold before we could get into camp We had a thirty hours of a ride in the cars We started from Kittanning at 12 oclock monday We got a firstrate supper at Pittsburg than we marched to the pennsylvania railroad We started from Pittsburg at half past seven in the evening and then we / did not get out of the cars till we got to camp i catched a very bad cold in the cars there is a lot of Welchmen in this camp there is about three thousand men in here and some hard cases too i would like to leave here soon i do not like this place at all it is so cold here it is on a high hill i cannot think of any thing more at present now while i am writing the orders came from the Colonel to inform us that we have to go to town to the governor to get our flag and we are to go to Washington on friday but i am not sure but i will let you know do not wr i am / in a hurry and i must bring my letter to a close i hope you are well and all the family so take care of yourself i am writing on my knees therefore you must excuse me for poor writing make yourself contented as you can for the battle is raging today on the potomac Write soon and put the address as follows
