Dear Wife i take my pen in hand to write a few lines to let you know that i am well and hope that these few lines will find you the same We are still in the same camp that we were when i wrote to you last it is a very pretty place for a camp We have a full view of the city of Washington We have got our guns yesterday We had to go to the city for them We had a warm and dusty march of it too
i have been expecting a letter from you till i have given you up this is the third letter since i got one from you. i think sometimes that you do not get my letters perhaps you do not direct your letters right i would like to get a letter from you for i feel very lonesome without hearing from you We only get a small loaf of bread for three meals and smokey bacon and potatoes sometimes i am near to where Benjamin Watkins there is a awful lot of / men left here the beginning of this week there was forty thousand men crossed the Potomac in one night the rebles have been whipped badly they have left Bulls run and manasses junction & our men are twenty miles the other side of bulls run thomas Davis regiment has gone on toward the rebles our men has taken a great many places last week i think that if our men go on for a few weeks more then i think the war will be over
it seems to me as if i had been from you for three months and i hope that you will not forget me but try to write as often as you can did you get a carpet sack after we left Camp Orr i it up to Adams with George Kemever and i left the quilt at Mrs Evans i seen her the day that we left Kittanning i must bring my letter to a close direct your letters as follows
