Dear Mother
We received our boxes all safe and sound yesterday Just after we had got them open we had orders to pack our knapsacks and be ready to march this morning at an early hour. We began to think we had got them in the wrong time. But we eat what we could wanted and determined to carry what we could. But before night the opinion gained ground that we should not move to-day and we have not yet and I do not think we shall / although the order has not been countermanded. We may not move for three or four days. I do not know where we are going some say across the river some to Washington and some that we are only going a couple of miles to another camping ground. We were I was very glad to get my box for I have not been feeling quite as well usual for the past few days and it tasted good. I am feeling better now though and shall get along I think. We have not been paid off yet and I am all out of money and if you can send me a dollar or two in your next letter I should like it. I have not received the letter you wrote after / sending the box. I hope you will not be worried about me for I am sick only a little unwell. I went to the doctor and he gave me some powders and pills and they set me up again. It is now about nine or ten oclock and there are no signs of moving more than any other day and perhaps we shall not go after all.
I do not know as I have any thing further to write now so good bye.
From your son
E. W. Stacy.
