Edward W. Stacy to Lucy W. Stacy, 29 March 1863
Finley Hospital Washington
D. C. Mar. 29th 1863.

Dear Mother

I have received your letter of the 22nd of March. I expect I shall leave this place tomorrow, so I thought I would write and let you know about it. The doctor took down a number of names of those he thought fit to go to their regiments and mine was among them. I had begun to think it was about time for me to be leaving as I have got to be pretty smart again and I have got rather tired of doing nothing. I suppose I shall be sent to the convalescent camp first and then to my regiment. I see by the papers that the Ninth Army / Corps has gone west to join Gen. Burnsides new command. I suppose the 36th has gone with them. Have you heard anything from the boys lately?

I sent forty dollars in money to father a few days since by express and a letter by mail the same day. The next time you write please inform me whether you have received it or not. I got a receipt from the express company. It was sent by Harndens Express. I have not been to the city lately so I have not seen Mr Warners folks. Miss Bacon is well. I have written to Uncle Marvin as you desired but if I leave here it may be some time before I get his letter if he answers it if I ever do. I received a letter from Elisha Emerson the other day. The folks are well.

How does Edward Harlow get along nowadays I suppose you hear from him by way of his folks. I wish you would get his address and send it to me for I should like to write to him. It is my turn I believe.

I will write again soon so as to let you know as to my whereabouts If I am sent to Kentucky I shall have a good long ride. I should like to go out there and see the country very much. But I do not know as I have any thing more to write so goodbye this time and with much love to you all I will close.

from your son
E. W. Stacy.
