Dec 26—
Dear Cordelia,
We are taking in coal, leave tomorrow, have telegraphed to stop mail in S.F. I send this overland, but a letter is in the bag & go up by next steamer.
The dinner went off by all right. Capt, wife & boy Forse Ray Emmerick Dr Pay Walling Dodd Stoney Strickland & self. finished with plum pudding & ice cream, various wines & champagne (Cal) but Capt, Dr S & I did not partake, so latter three dont subscribe. Stoney was scared I think by my threat a while ago. S— is watching too & Stoney knows it.
Let Geo P have his rope. Caution him. If he loses it, it wont be much loss.
I am sending all those letters to Rhoades of the Tribune, the S.F. Chron Sunday letters of love of Rodgers. I chanced to get them all the other day, so cut them out, & have asked him to send them to your address when he is through with them. Have got some of those sea beans, not so good as before, but will polish them up & send by & by.
Happy New Year for all, dont forget to change address of mail to Vallejo when you get my message from S.F. of arrival.
Goodbye, All,
George.
