Dear George,
I was very glad at receiving your letter, it came with Mama's today. I hope you wont be shooting your arrow into some boys face, always point it in some other direction. I saw a young mans two fingers cut off the other day from his right hand. I put him on a car & sent him up to the Navy Hospital. It was through his own carelessness, so you & Frank look out.
I am afraid you would be / cutting yourself if you had a knife.
I think it is a good idea for the school boys like you to have a fire engine company, & hook & ladder gang, so if you have a fire in the school you will know what to do.
Glad you have been promoted. I hope you will soon be No 1 in first division.
The New York Herald has laid a cable from Europe to the Herald office in New York, & they are laying it in the ground right in this street to the bridge. I will send you a piece of it in the next paper to Mama.
Much love from
Papa.
