Asenath Long (maiden name: McWilliams) was born around 1818 in Ohio. She married James Reed on October 16, 1834, and they had at least three children: Enos, born on October 15, 1836; Almeda, born around 1842; and James, born around 1845. Her husband died around 1845, and she eventually married Thomas Long. They had at least five children: Samuel, born around 1852; Araminta, born around 1854; Eliza, born around 1855; Broomfield, born around 1857; and Flora, born around 1858. They moved to Pleasant, Iowa, around 1853, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1860, they owned $2,500 of real estate and $788 of personal property. They moved to Washington, Iowa, and by 1870, they owned $4,200 of real estate and $1,700 of personal property. They moved to Cherry, Kansas, in the early 1870s, and by 1875, they owned $4,000 of real estate and $500 of personal property. Her husband died in the 1870s. By 1880, she was living with her son Broomfield in Newark, Kansas. She died in Kansas on February 7, 1887.
