Friday, January 1, 1864.
It was a very cold day. the coldes we have had. I wrote a letter home telling them that I was not going to enlist. The veterans were sworn in to day.
 
Saturday 2
I was on picket with Lieut Lanady. the paymaster came to pay the veterans off. The weather was not as cold as yesterday.
 
Sunday 3
I came off picket. it hailed some in the day time and at night it rained.
                                                           
 
Monday, January 4, 1864.
It rained very moderate all day. the 145th N.Y.V. marched by going up to Tullahoma. the came from Anderson. I got a letter from home.
 
Tuesday 5
I was on picket. it was a cold day and tried to snow but could not. The news came that they could take home the organization of the regiment the order was read off what Co. we was going into
 
Wednesday 6
I came off picket, the Officers were getting ready to start for home. the Lowell box came to the regiment so I got mine
                                                           
Thursday, January 7, 1864.
It snowed some in the morning. The Band came down from Tullahoma to go home with the regiment.
 
Friday 8
Our pickets were relieved by the 123rd N.Y. Regt that came to take our place when the regiment got ready to go home. Two of the Band stoped in the tent with us.
 
Saturday 9
The regiment did not go as the expected. the orders came for them to cook three days rations to start up. After dinner the band plaid several tunes.
                                                           
 
Sunday, January 10, 1864.
The regiment got started at last. went up to Estill Springs and took the cars. when the wagons got back we marched up to Cowan Station.
 
Monday 11
We stoped here to day and did not have to furnish any picket.
 
Tuesday 12
I was on camp guard and stoped with the picket. There was a picket for our regiment to day.
                                                           
 
Wednesday, January 13, 1864.
I came off guard. there was nothing going on more than choping wood to keep warm.
 
Thursday 14
We drew rations to day so we got our rations of Co. E. drew one days rations of soft bread.
 
Friday 15
The guard was very light to day so I did not have to go on guard as I expected.
                                                           
Saturday, January 16, 1864.
I was on picket. had a grand guard mounting, the greatest I ever saw. I was on with part of the 5th Conn. & 3rd Maryland
 
Sunday 17
I came off picket and wrote a letter home. the first that a have wrote since the first day of the month.
 
Monday 18
Blake and I went out hunting a while but did not get any thing.
 
                                                           
 
Tuesday, January 19, 1864.
I was on picket. was on next to the camp so I had a very good time of it. I was near sick to day as I took a very bad cold last night and my tooth troubled me some.
 
Wednesday 20
Came off picket and found two letters for me, one from home, the other from Ella, both dated Jan 3rd.
The regiment arrived home last night.
 
Thursday 21
I was on patrole to day. I got this Diary from home this morning and a letter from Cousin Everett.
 
                                                           
 
Friday, January 22, 1864.
Come off patrole and went at work on the tent. I put up part of the chimney in the afternoon and the rest laid the floor, so we moved in at night and had a fire.
 
Saturday 23
It was a very pleasant day. I worked all day on the house. I did not lay the rest of the chimney I got a letter from A.P.B. dated Jan 11th.
 
Sunday 24
We had an inspection as usual. I was not on inspection as I was sent to work on the Lieut. cook chimney. I worked all day but did not get it done.
 
                                                           
 
Monday, January 25, 1864.
I finished the Lieuts chimney in the forenoon then worked on my house. It was a very pleasant day. it was very warm.
 
Tuesday 26
Very warm to day. I worked and fixed around the chimney and done my washing. I drew a cap in the afternoon.
 
Wednesday 27
I was on picket. was on the post next to camp. it was a very fine day. I wrote a letter to Cousin Everett.
 
                                                           
 
Thursday, January 28, 1864.
Fersen, Barker, Minor & I went out on a pass. we went up the railroad over the mountain as far as the water tank. we had our guns and shot a pig when we came back to camp. I got a letter from home to day.
 
Friday 29
I was on picket to day was on over to the Corps it was a very fine day. In the evening there was a dance at the house. the first dance I have seen since I left home.
 
Saturday 30
I came of picket and found that we had marching orders And took the cars at ten o'clock in the evening and went up to Tullahoma.
 
                                                           
 
Sunday, January 31, 1864.
We came to Tullahoma at one o'clock in the morning and lay in the Depot till morning. then marched out by the hospital and waited until the 5th Conn. left it was little past noon when we moved in.
 
Monday, February 1
We did not have any guard except for camp guard at night. There was a teriable tornado last night. In the evening I went over to the Lyceum at the Bands. House.
 
Tuesday 2
I was on picket. was on the rail road with six men. one man on a relief. so I did not have a very hard time. The wind blew teriable at night and rained a little
                                                           
 
Wednesday, February 3, 1864.
Through a mistake I was not relieved until most noon when I went up to the Ambulance Corps. In the evening Mr. Brown and I went to the prayer meeting.
 
Thursday 4
The foraging party went out this morning. Barker went out with three days ration. I bought some thread and mended my great coat. that was all I done this day except to chop wood for the fire.
 
Friday 5
Went on picket, was on the same post as I was before. The day was cloudy with wind. it rained a little in the night.
 
                                                           
 
Saturday, February 6, 1864.
Came off picket. it rained and snowed in the morning and was very windy during the day. I wrote a letter to A.P. Butterfield after which I went over and got a box of Charles Tilton Esqr.
Sunday 7
It was a very pleasant day. We had our usual Sunday morning inspection. there was an inspection of quarters by Gen Powell. I made some stools & a table to day and wrote a letter home in the evening
 
Monday 8
I went out foraging. we started at six in the morn Passed through Lynchburg and went into camp at Mulberry at four o'clock and was on guard to night.
                                                           
 
Tuesday, February 9, 1864.
We started at five o'clock and went down the creek eight miles and loaded the wagons with corn then returned to Mulberry at three o'clock where we dressed a pig for supper
 
Wednesday 10
We started for camp at six o'clock went on finely until near Lynchburg when one of the wagons tipped over so we had to stop an hour. we got into camp at four o'clock
 
Thursday 11
I went over to see the 3rd Wis. who had just returned from their furloughs. then I went over to get my shoes tapped but did not get them tapped until in the evening.
                                                           
 
Friday, February 12, 1864.
After breakfast I went over after my shoes. after I got back I had to go on police and dig up stumps all day. In the evening I wrote a letter to Ella.
 
Saturday 13
I was on picket. was down on the rail road. It was a very pleasant day, but it clouded up in the evening and commenced to rain in the morning. There was an order read off that we must drill.
Sunday 14
I came off picket in the rain and it rained most all day. There was a great chase after a Nigro who got out of the guard tent. I went to the prayer meeting in the evening
                                                           
Monday, February 15, 1864.
It was very rainy most of the day. I wrote a letter to Herman. in the evening I went over to the Lyceum. It cleared off in the evening so that the moon shone The 27th Ind. started in the night for home.
 
Tuesday 16
I went on picket. was on for the first time the McMinnville rail road. it was a cold day compared with what we have been having. They did not drill in camp as they expected to. the protest was carried in by Leveson.
 
Wednesday 17
I came off picket. mended my pants in the forenoon. The paymaster came and we signed the pay roll but did not get paid to day. I wrote a letter to Pendergast.
                                                           
Thursday, February 18, 1864.
It was a very cold day. I got a letter from home dated the 7th
We got paid off at dark at the Adjutants Post Head Quarters. we were paid up to the first of the year.
 
Friday 19
I was on picket. was on the McMinnville R.R. It was a very cold day. Jesse Stover got back to the regiment. he left at Sharpsburg, last December. Drilled this afternoon
 
Saturday 20
I came off picket. after dinner I went out with James Bowman and got a load of wood for our tents.
                                                           
 
Sunday, February 21, 1864.
We had our usual sunday morning inspection. They detailed me to go out foraging but I could not see it so I went to the Captain. I wrote home and to Lovina & Susan.
 
Monday 22
I went on picket. was on the McMinnville R.R. it was a very warm day.
 
Tuesday 23
I came off picket and loafed over town all day. I went to the prayer meeting in the afternoon evening.
                                                           
Wednesday, February 24, 1864.
I loafed around town most of the forenoon. After dinner I went over to the hospital and had a tooth pulled I bought part of a liver.
 
Thursday 25
I went on picket. was on the McMinnville R.R. it was a very warm day and quite a cold night. 15 Rebel deserters went out by the picket boys
 
Friday 26
I came off picket. we heard that the Regiment was on the way here from the State. I bought some stationary in the evening at the book store.
                                                           
 
Saturday, February 27, 1864.
The weather was warm but very smoky it looks like rain. I was on police in the forenoon and dug a sink for the regiment.
 
Sunday 28
We had our usual sunday morning inspection. it commenced to rain after inspection and rained most all day. I got a letter from Georgie and a paper from A.P. Butterfield
Monday 29
I came off picket and wrote a letter home. It rained all day. I left my dress coat to go to the dance to night.
 
                                                           
 
Tuesday, March 1, 1864.
The regiment came at three o'clock in the morning just as I was coming home from the dance, so I asked Pendy & Wilson to stop with me. It rained all day.
 
Wednesday 2
I was on guard over prisoners in the stockade. we were sent back into our old Co. and had to move over to the 10th Maine camp. it was a very fine day but a cold night.
 
Thursday 3
I was on guard all day and did not get relieved until dark. I wrote a letter to Georgie in answer to one of the 18th.

I was on guard over Gen Stevens Head Quarters. it was a very windy day and it rained a little in the evening.
 
Saturday 5
I came off Head Quarters guard and had my washing done. The weather was quite cool.

We had our usual sunday morning inspection. I did not have to go on guard as I expected. I wrote a letter home.

I went on picket. was on by the Fort. there was a number of thunder showers during the day & night. we had a tent pitched so we got along very well.

I came off picket. it rained most all night but cleared up in the morning

Came off picket and found a letter from home dated Feb. 28th It was a very windy day and it rained a little in the evening.
 
Friday 11
I was sick and went to the Doctor and got excused from guard. it was a very windy day, but not very cold.
 
Saturday 12
I went on head quarters guard. it was a very pleasant day. There was a Division inspection at eleven o'clock. I was not on it.
 
                                                           
 
Sunday, March 13, 1864.
There was the usual sunday morning inspection I came off guard. got a letter from home. dated 6th and wrote home & to A.P.B.
 
Monday 14
I went on guard was on the second relief at the stockade. the day was quite squally and cold.
 
Tuesday 15
It was quite cold & windy all day. This makes three birth days I have had in the army.
 
                                                           
 
 
Wednesday, March 16, 1864.
I was on Division guard with Sergt. Greenwood. It was a cold and squally day. The guerrillas burnt some cars on the rail road about three miles from here.
 
Thursday 17
I lent Amos Glines 5 dollars this morning and have let Barker have fifteen dollars I received a letter from Herman Parker dated March 6th. It was a clear but cold day.
 
Friday 18
It was a windy day. We moved our house over to the regiment in the afternoon and I was called to go out to guard the cars to Manchester

We worked all day on the house and got it all done except the chimney. we stoped in the house at night.

A very pleasant day. we had our usual Sunday morning inspection after which we put up our chimney I got a letter from Georgie

It was cloudy and quite cool. I was on picket was on the McMinnville R.R. There was a drill this afternoon.

I came off picket and found a letter from home dated the 13th. It was cloudy and tried to snow a bit but did not make out much.

It was a very pleasant day. more so than it has been for several days. I wrote a letter to Herman Parker.
Thursday 24
I went on picket. was on the post at the right of the fort. it was a very uncomfortable day and night as the wind blew and it rained.
 
                                                           
 
Friday, March 25, 1864.
I came off picket. it was showery all day. I got a letter from Cousin Everett dated the 20th.
It rained quite hard all night so it made it very muddy.
 
Saturday 26
The Hotel burnt up at one o'clock this morning I got up and went to the fire. it cleared off and was a pleasant day. We had a clothing inspection at twelve o'clock
 
Sunday 27
We had our usual inspection I was on picket at the left of the fort. I got a letter and wrote a letter to James A. Davis.

I came off picket this morning. it was very windy and rained some at noon but cleared up but no dress perade there was a thunder shower in the evening. I wrote a letter home.

I got a letter from home dated March 20th
It was a very windy and squally day we had an undress perade.
 
Wednesday 30
It was a cloudy day and quite cool. I went out with a funeral escort. We were reviewed by Gen Slocum after noon. We had a dress perade to night.

I was on picket, was on the rail road where the cars were. it was a fine day until toards eve when it clouded up and rained all night.

I came off picket. it rained all day and was very cool I received a letter from Vina & Susan dated March 21st.

It cleared off to day and was very warm and pleasant I helped dig a company sink in the afternoon. We had an undress perade

I was on patrole. it was a very pleasant day, but in the evening there came up a thunder shower, and rained all night.

I came off patrole. it rained very hard all of the forenoon. I got a letter and answered it to day.
I got a letter from Andrew yesterday.

I was on patrole. I was kept busy all day in hunting up stolen goods from the hospital. It was a very pleasant and warm day. I think the warmest of the spring.
 
Thursday 7
I came off patrole this morning. it was a warm day but cloudy. We had a game of ball in the afternoon. I got a letter from home & Ella.
Friday 8
It rained some during the day. It cleared up in the afternoon and we had a dress perade. 27 Ind. came in the forenoon.

I was on camp guard. It was quite rainy day & night and quite cool. Corpl Cutter of 3rd Wis. was here and stoped all night.

I came off camp guard and had a monthly inspection at 11 o'clock I had to go out on it. We had a dress perade as usual.

I tried to write a letter to Vina but failed of.

I went on cattle guard but there was not cattle there to guard so I had an easy time of it. I got a letter from home dated the 3rd.

I came off cattle guard. it was a splendid day but clouded up toards night and the sun dogs was out the sutlers was put off until nine o'clock.
 
Thursday 14
It was cloudy and sprinkled a little so we did not have a dress perade. I tried to write a letter to Vina but failed of.

I went on picket was on at the right of the Fort. it was a very pleasant day & night.
Received a letter from Lieut J. P. King.

I came off picket and drew a pair of pants. In the evening I put some pockets in to them and sewed on the buttons.

We had our usual Sunday morning inspection I wrote a few words home. It rained toard night so that we did not have a dress perade.

It was quite pleasant in the forenoon. we plaid ball all of the forenoon. It was squally toards night so that we had an undress perade. I got three letters to night, home James & Georgie

I went on picket. was on the Nashville R.R. and stoped in the cars It was a fine but cold day.
 
Wednesday 20
I came off picket and wrote a letter to Georgie We did not have any dress perade to night It was a very pleasant day.
                                                           
 
Thursday, April 21, 1864.
It was quite a fine day until after noon when it commenced to rain so that we did not have a dress perade. I went out to the Cave & Cavern got to camp at 3 o'clock.
 
Friday 22
Very warm and pleasant. I wrote four letters one to Susan. Lavina, Everett & Andrew. The Band came over and plaid in the evening.
 
Saturday 23
I went on cattle guard with our Company. there was two cattle to guard. We slept all night.

It rained in the morning so that there was no inspection, but it cleared up so that we had a dress perade. I wrote a letter home and to J. P. King.
 
Monday 25
Warm and pleasant A guard went out after the 3rd Wis. There was a dress perade and the order was read off to drill with knapsacks.
 
Tuesday 26
I went up to Dutch River to guard two Ambulances and came part of the way back on the cars. I went on dress perade. Wrote a letter to James
                                                           
 
Wednesday, April 27, 1864.
It was a very warm day. We packed up our over coats and sent them to Lowell by Express I wrote a letter to Ella We had orders to march at nine o'clock.
 
Thursday 28
We marched at nine o'clock went to the Creek and stoped one hour for dinner then marched to Decherd and camped got in in good season.
 
Friday 29
Marched from Decherd up onto the mountain and stoped at Manchester it rained teriably all night.
                                                           
 
Saturday, April 30, 1864.
We marched on top of the mountain most all day. came off of the mountain toards night and camped several miles from Bridgeport. I was on picket.
 
Sunday, May 1
Marched to Shellmound got in late at night. Stoped at Bridgeport and drew two days rations. Stoped near the great Cave.
Monday 2
We marched from Shellmound to Whiteside and got into camp at two o'clock

Marched from Whiteside to Chattanooga. Passed Lookout Mountain.
 
Wednesday 4
Marched from Lookout Mountain to Chickamauga River. it was a very easy march and got into camp early.
 
Thursday 5
We marched from Gordons Mills and camped four miles from Ringgold near the 33rd Mass.
 
                                                           
 
Friday, May 6, 1864.
We lay in camp all day. The Third Division marched to Lee's Farm. We drew two days rations.
Col Cogswell told us that we would have to stay until the 23rd.
 
Saturday 7
We got up at three o'clock and marched at day light, crossed the mountain and went into camp eight miles from Dalton. I had to go on picket to night
 
Sunday 8
It was a very warm day. I was relieved from picket about ten o'clock. we did not move today. Drew two days rations about midnight.
 
                                                           
 
Monday, May 9, 1864.
There was considerable firing on the left in the forenoon. The wagon train came up from Nashville. it was a very warm day.
Tuesday 10
We marched at one o'clock in the morning and marched near twenty miles into a gap, and camped after dark. it was a teriable rainy night.
 
Wednesday 11
It was cloudy and rained a very little during the day. we lay in Snake Creek Gap.
 
                                                           
 
Thursday, May 12, 1864.
It was a very cool day. we did not move the rest of our Corps marched by. I saw the 33rd Mass Regt. They went into camp about a half of a mile from here.
 
Friday 13
We marched quite early and went to the front we built a line of breastwork and then left them there was heavy skirmishing.
 
Saturday 14
We were in reserve and went from right to left. part of our brigade was engaged but we did not happen to be in it.
 
                                                           
 
Sunday, May 15, 1864.
We lay off until afternoon, when we went around on the left and was engaged just before dark. Cousin Everett was killed on a charge on the breast works.
 
Monday 16
We marched over the rebel breast works and followed the rebels up to the river. the rebels retreated in the night.
 
Tuesday 17
We crossed the river and stoped until one o'clock then marched eight miles. I had to go on picket. it rained in the forenoon.
                                                           
Wednesday, May 18, 1864.
We got up at three o'clock and marched at nine. we went very slow until dark then they put us through, marched 20 miles. a very warm day. Half of the company fell out.
 
Thursday 19
We got up at four o'clock and marched at one in the afternoon. we formed a line of battle and advanced two miles. we found the rebels but it was dark so we stoped.
 
Friday 20
We did not have a fight as we expected, but the rebels had gone. so we moved into town and camped for the day. I wrote a letter home.
 
                                                           
 
Saturday, May 21, 1864.
There was to be an inspection at three o'clock but for some reason, it was postponed. It was a teriable hot day. I wrote a letter home to go with Lieut.
 
Sunday 22
I wrote a letter to Georgie and sent it by Lewison. We had our usual sunday morning inspection. The regiment left for home at half past five o'clock.
 
Monday 23
Had revollee at three and marched at day light we were the advance guard of our Division. We marched near 15 miles and crossed the river and went into camp.
 
                                                           
 
Tuesday, May 24, 1864.
Got up at three and marched at seven. we were wagon guards the road was very rough so we did not go into camp at all, but by by the side of the road.
 
 
Wednesday 25
We marched with the train part of the forenoon then joined the Brigade The Corps was in a battle toards night. our regiment was left to guard a bridge. Our loss was heavy
 
Thursday 26
I came off picket at ten o'clock. we did not move to day. in the afternoon Co. C. pusht the bridge down so that the wagons could go over
 
                                                           
 
Friday, May 27, 1864.
Cannonading commenced early this morning and lasted until past noon I killed four sheep this forenoon for the Regt.
 
Saturday 28
I went on picket was in over the creek near the house. in the afternoon the 15 Corps hospital moved to our camp
 
Sunday 29
Got up at two o'clock marched at half past five. went up to the other bridge and stoped. Went to guard the wagon train. stoped at the Creek for the night
 
                                                           
 
Monday, May 30, 1864.
Marched at four and got to Kingston before noon went into camp on the left of the town. The boys that were discharged left Chattanooga this forenoon.
 
Tuesday 31
I wrote a letter home this forenoon. It was a teriable hot day. we did not go back to day as we expected . I bought some bread & butter this afternoon. This ends the last of May.
 
 
Wednesday, June 1
It was a teriable hot day. I made two rings from buttons that E. T. True gave me. An awful lot of wagons came in to day. I was on camp guard at night
 
                                                           
 
Thursday, June 2, 1864.
Lieut Mehan came this morning with a lot of recruits. we got seven out of the lot. There came up a thunder shower in the afternoon. it rained some in the night.
 
Friday 3
It was a very muggy day and it showered several times during the day.
 
Saturday 4
It rained all day. We marched at one o'clock. we went in the middle of the wagon train. we camped at the Mill at ten o'clock at night. It rained all the time
 
                                                           
 
Sunday, June 5, 1864.
Very rainy in the morning. We march at nine o'clock it was teriably muddy. Went to the Creek and stoped all night. it rained all night.
 
Monday 6
Revollee at half past two and marched at three in the afternoon and marched until ten and lay to the side of the road near Burnt Hickory Capt Crowenshield was shot through the leg.
 
Tuesday 7
I was on guard. revolee at five and marched at six it was teriable hot. Marched 12 miles and camped near the 2nd Division of the 23rd Corps.
 
                                                           
 
 
Wednesday, June 8, 1864.
Marched at six o'clock and went five miles & joined the Brigade. We got three mails, but I did not get a letter. I wrote a few words to True and sent him two letters
 
Thursday 9
Got up at four and got ready to march but did not go. We drew two more days rations making four from Friday morning. It rained in showers during the day.
 
Friday 10
We had orders to be ready to march at eight o'clock We struck tents and worked all day in the rain and then did not go. Pickering of the 33rd came over to see us.
                                                           
 
Saturday, June 11, 1864.
Wrote a letter home this forenoon
Very rainy we marched at one o'clock and went about two miles and formed a line of battle had to go to work and build breast works. It rained very hard all the time
 
Sunday 12
It rained very hard all day. went to work and finished the breast works. I got excused from guard to night because I hurt myself choping last night.
 
Monday 13
It rained very hard all of the forenoon. I had to go on picket at one o'clock. the second Div moved out in front of us.
                                                           
 
Tuesday, June 14, 1864.
I came off picket at one o'clock. it cleared off in the night and was cool and pleasant. There was considerable cannonading on to the hill from our batteries.
 
Wednesday 15
I got a letter & answered it. We marched at one o'clock and advanced. Our division was not engaged, but the other Divisions of this Corps was. the firing was kept up all night.
 
Thursday 16
We moved to the rear of the brigade and lay there all day there was firing all day. the rebels shelled us some during the day
 
                                                           
 
Friday, June 17, 1864.
The rebels left and we started after them and over took them about two miles. we formed a line of battle and threw up breast works. There was fighting all night.
 
Saturday 18
The 4 Corps was fighting all day. there was teriable cannonading most all day. our Corps was not engaged to day.
 
Sunday 19
It rained hard as usual We advanced two miles took up a position and put up breast works. I got a letter from Henry and Chas Miner dated June 9 & 10.

Wednesday, December 14, 1864.
Chop a part of the day. Butchered the hog in the morning. Went to Soldiers Aid in the evening at Mr John Swallows.
 
Thursday 15
We choped wood all day. It was a cold day.
 
Friday 16
Choped in the forenoon and went to the funeral in the afternoon. in the evening went up to the singing meeting at the baptistry
 
                                                           
 
Saturday, December 17, 1864.
It was a windy day. we choped most all day.
 
Sunday 18
It was a beautiful day. I went to meeting I wrote to A.P.B. with George.
 
Monday 19
Went up to the woods after a load of wood. It rained quite hard
 
                                                           
 
Tuesday, December 20, 1864.
I went down to Proctors lot and helped Sylvester load a load of logs & went up to Pepperell with George to go to Fitchburg to work.
Wednesday 21
Choped in the forenoon It commenced to snow at noon and snowed very hard. I went up in town and got a letter from Georgie dated the 19th Wrote to her in the evening
 
Thursday 22
Killed the cow in the forenoon. I went to Tyngsboro to carry W. B. Cummings a quarter of beef. It was a very cold & windy day. Put a letter in the office at Tyngsboro for G.K. of Leominster.
                                                           
 
Friday, December 23, 1864.
It was a very cold day & below zero. I cut up the beef in the forenoon and choped in the afternoon. We heard that Cousin Warren was dead. Died Nov 29
 
Saturday 24
I went up in town in the evening after the papers. Stoped and heard the band play three tunes then came home.
 
Sunday 25
Went to church. it was a very pleasant Christmas. Text forenoon Rom. VII. IX Afternoon Psalms 67.2.
                                                           
Monday, December 26, 1864.
Choped in the forenoon. It rained in the afternoon so I went up to Mr. Taylors and spent the evening. I got a letter from Georgie & Ella one from George.
 
Tuesday 27
Choped in the forenoon and went down and loaded timber in the afternoon. The weather was very warm and foggy. Got a letter from George.
 
Wednesday 28
I went down and helped load timber and choped the rest of the forenoon when it commenced to rain, and rained all of the afternoon Dr. Howe was down here
                                                           
Thursday, December 29, 1864.
I choped in the forenoon in the afternoon I went up to James Burnaps & Swallows. I wrote to Georgie.
 
Friday 30
Mother & I went over to Westford and returned at half past five. I went up to the meeting. Charles Burrows came home and stoped over night.
 
Saturday 31
It snowed all day. I went up to the woods and trimed out some trees that I had left down.
